AMES, Iowa – Iowa State men’s basketball player Cameron Lard is currently enrolled at a wellness center dedicated to helping individuals build a balanced and structured lifestyle.
Coach Steve Prohm and the Iowa State Athletics Department talked to Lard and his mother this spring about a wellness program and they were receptive to participating in a program that helps individuals make improvements in all aspects of their life.
“Cam needs to change some personal habits and he knows that,” Prohm said. “Our priority is, and should be, to help our kids reach their potentials for the long term.”
Lard will not be on campus this summer but rather is focused on addressing a personal improvement matter. He is looking forward to returning to the university and the Cyclone basketball team upon successfully completing the wellness program. Lard is focused on remaining positive and optimistic about his future.
“With the help of everyone here, I can assure you that I’m making some positive changes and (developing) better habits,” Lard texted Prohm this week.
The 6-9 sophomore, who averaged 12.6 points and finished second in the Big 12 with a 60.1% field goal rate, has already begun his wellness program.
Prohm has admiration for Lard.
“Cam has been open to improving as a person and desiring to make better decisions,” Prohm said. “I’m so proud of him for taking ownership on becoming the best Cam he can be. There is a very bright future for him if he matures as a young man.”
Lard’s support system is anchored by his mother, Belinda.
“Words can’t express my appreciation for what Iowa State and Coach Prohm are doing for my son,” his mother, Belinda, said. “They care about Cam as a young man and that means the world to me.”
Prohm said his team is anxious to welcome him back upon his return.
“And, in knowing Cyclone fans, I can only imagine the reception he’ll receive when he hits the Hilton court for the first time,” Prohm said.
Lard and his family sincerely appreciate the support they are receiving. But neither they, nor the athletics department staff or university will be making any additional public statements on the issue at this time.
