Recruiting Roundup: May 5, 2018

BASKETBALL LATEST:

*** ISU watched PG Tyrell Terry (Minneapolis, Minn.) last weekend.  The staff has not yet offered but has been in to watch him a few times in recent months.  Minnesota and Stanford are among his leaders with other offers from Baylor, Butler, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska and Xavier.

*** Iowa State assistant coach Daniyal Robinson watched both of PG DJ Carton’s (Bettendorf) games Saturday and head coach Steve Prohm watched his game on Sunday.  There have been multiple reports this week that his top seven include Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Marquette, Michigan, Ohio State, and Wisconsin.

*** If you remotely follow basketball recruiting, you know Dekeyvan Tandy (Hopkinsville, Kent.) is a top (if not THE top) target for the staff.  The staff offered and visited him four times since the calendar turned to March.  His profile now shows a top five of Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kansas State, Kentucky and Tennessee.  All but Kentucky have offered.

FOOTBALL LATEST:

*** Defensive tackle Isaiah Gibson (Springfield, Ohio) announced via Twitter a top 10 of  Iowa State, Kentucky, Minnesota, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Indiana, Purdue, Maryland, Rutgers and Louisville on Saturday.  He will make his commitment on September 19th.  Gibson took a visit to Ames on March 23 and mentioned ISU as a possibility for an official visit in an interview after.

*** The Cyclones made the top seven for linebacker Jestin Jacobs (Clayton, Ohio) on Tuesday. His other six included Cincinnati, Iowa, Kentucky, Northwestern, Purdue, and Michigan State.  Jacobs visited Ames on March 25th.

*** ISU quarterback commit Easton Dean (Altamont, Kan.) will compete at the Opening Regional in Dallas this weekend.  The No. 15 quarterback in the 2019 class committed to the Cyclones on February 10th and holds offers from Iowa, South Dakota and South Dakota State.

*** Defensive end Mario Kendricks Jr. (Kissimmee, Fla.) has a top five of Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Louisville, Virginia and Virginia Tech on his profile.  Kendricks Jr. was offered April 7th and is rated as the No. 52 SDE in the 2019 class.

*** Cyclone wide receiver commit D’Shayne James (Gilbert, Ariz.) received a rating boost this week.  James, who is from the same high school as 2018 quarterback signee Brock Purdy, jumped 19 spots to the No. 117 WR and 132 spots overall to just crack the top 1000 for the 2019 class.

BASKETBALL OFFERS:

*** On Thursday, the Cyclones offered power foward Tyler Wahl (Lakeville, Minn.).  The staff has been in multiple times the last few weeks to see him.  Wahl holds offers from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Colorado State and a host of MVC schools.
