WRESTLING: Dresser puts Kanen Storr issue to bed

AMES — By now, you’ve likely heard about the statement that former Iowa State wrestler Kanen Storr posted on his Twitter account last Thursday.

On Monday morning, first-year Iowa State head coach Kevin Dresser responded to Storr’s comments.

“It’s never fun when you have an athlete that is upset,” Dresser said. “It’s never fun, but I can tell you this: He’s a great kid. He’s going to figure out where he wants to go and where he wants to be. At the end of the day, that’s what life’s all about.”

There was more…

“I’ve got a 16-year-old, basically an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old and if they came home and say ‘Dad, you know what, I’m not happy here’ where it is ‘and I don’t want to be here’ I want to be happy, I want my three kids to be happy and I want Kanen Storr to be happy.”

Dresser added that Storr will remain on scholarship and finish off the remainder of academic spring semester at Iowa State. At the conclusion of this semester, with the exception of any Big 12 schools, Storr will be released immediately to all other institutions including the University of Virginia.

“He’s going to be able to start over and get some things done,” said Dresser. “And more than that, to me, it’s about making sure the guy gets to go where he wants to be.”

Dresser made it very clear that he is standing behind his staff on this issue.

“We’ve moved on,” said Dresser. “We have a great thing going here and we need to focus on that.”
