Monte Morris selected by the Denver Nuggets in NBA Draft

Iowa State’s all-time leader in assists and steals is headed to Denver.

Former Cyclone Monte Morris was taken with the No. 51 pick by Denver Nuggets in the second round of Thursday night’s NBA Draft. This is the second straight year Iowa State had someone selected after the Indiana Pacers took Georges Niang and Abdel Nader was taken by the Boston Celtics in the second round of last year’s draft.

Morris averaged 16.4 points and 6.2 assists per game while leading Iowa State to a Big 12 tournament title and the second round of the NCAA Tournament as a senior. He was a first team All-Big 12 selection and was pegged as the most outstanding player of the Big 12 tournament.

He will join a young roster in Denver highlighted by rising star center Nikola Jokic and former Kentucky guard Jamal Murray.
