RECRUITING: Shakur Juiston named D1 JUCO Player of the Year

Iowa State target Shakur Juiston has been named the NJCAA Division I national player of the year by the association’s men’s basketball committee.

Juiston, who led Hutchinson C.C. to the NJCAA national championship, averaged 17.3 points and 12.1 rebounds per game during his sophomore season for the Blue Dragons. He compiled 27 double-doubles and scored in double-figures in all but three games.

He leaves Hutchinson as the program’s all-time leading rebounder.

The 6-foot-7, 215-pound power forward visited Iowa State last weekend. He visited DePaul earlier this week and UNLV earlier in the month. He’s reportedly also considering Rhode Island.

Iowa State has three scholarships open for the 2017-18 season after Virginia transfer Marial Shayok’s commitment on Wednesday.
