RECRUITING: Iowa State hosting 15 visitors this weekend

Iowa State will host 15 visitors this weekend, 14 of them official, to continue the march towards National Signing Day on February 1. The group is made up of 12 current commits and three priority prospects.

The three uncommitted players include Cincinnati safety Keontae Jones, Florida cornerback Jeffrey Lubin and USC graduate transfer offensive lineman Khaliel Rodgers.

Jones is rated as the No. 40 safety in the class by 247 Composite. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound defensive back is scheduled to visit Virginia Tech next weekend and his final decision will likely come down to the Cyclones, Hokies or Indiana. Jones, the brother of Iowa State wide receiver Deshaunte Jones, has been in Ames for three unofficial visits in the last year.

Lubin, who is rated as a two-star recruit by 247 Composite, is the No. 208 cornerback in the class. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound prospect is scheduled to visit Akron next weekend.

One week after adding Michigan grad transfer David Dawson, the staff will try to keep the momentum in that area while hosting Rodgers. The 6-foot-3, 315-pound interior offensive lineman was a four-star recruit in the class of 2013.

He was the No. 129 player in the country and No. 3 center in the class, according to 247 Composite.

Finally, 11 of Iowa State’s 21 commits will be on campus for official visits including  Waterloo West quarterback Devon Moore, Iowa City offensive lineman Alex Kleinow, West Delaware athlete John Nagel, Ames offensive lineman Colin Newell, Dowling linebacker Jake Hummel, Cedar Rapids Washington linebacker O’Rien Vance, Mississippi defensive end Cordarrius Bailey, Ohio defensive lineman Dan Sichterman, Kansas defensive lineman Angel Dominguez, Ohio offensive lineman Jeff Nogaj and California defensive lineman Tucker Robertson.

Arkansas wide receiver Josh Johnson will be in town on an unofficial visit.

Stay tuned to Cyclone Fanatic for any news from this big visit weekend.
