Kamari Cotton-Moya released from hospital

AMES — Iowa State safety Kamari Cotton-Moya has been released from the hospital, Cyclone athletics spokesperson Mike Green said this morning.

The 2014 Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the year sustained an apparent head injury in Tuesday’s fully-padded practice and was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center.

"I just commend our athletic training staff and the local authorities for how fast they were responsive to it and the job that they did taking care of him," ISU coach Paul Rhoads said during post-practice availability on Tuesday. "They calmed him, secured him and got him on his way.”

Rhoads said at the time Cotton-Moya was alert and able to communicate with those around him as he was taken off the field on a backboard.

  The 6-1, 195-pound redshirt sophomore-to-be recorded a team-leading 77 tackles last season and recovered a fumble.

Green said Cotton-Moya was doing well at the time of his release and team doctors will continue to monitor his progress and be re-checked during the next two weeks.
