Douglas is the fifth different Iowa State assistant coach from last season that will not be on the sidelines in 2014. Courtney Messingham and Kenith Pope were relieved of their duties after the 2013 season. Bill Bleil left to become the offensive coordinator at Rhode Island. Curtis Bray tragically passed away in January.

Paul Rhoads has already named Mark Mangino (offensive coordinator, tight ends coach), Louis Ayeni (running backs) , Tommy Mangino (wide receivers), Brandon Blaney (offensive line) and Stan Eggen (defensive ends) to his staff.
