AMES, Iowa – Iowa State senior Melvin Ejim has been named one of 15 finalists for the United States Basketball Writers Association’s Oscar Robertson Trophy, given annually to the national player of the year. 

Ejim, a Toronto, Ontario native, is leading the Big 12 in scoring with 18.4 points per game. He is also third in rebounding (8.3). He is the only player in a power conference averaging 18 points and eight rebounds while also shooting at least 50 percent from the field and 34 percent from three-point range.

Ejim has scored in double figures in 23 of the 25 games he’s played in, including 11 games with 20 or more points. His top game came against TCU, when the forward erupted for a Big 12 record 48 points to go along with a career-high 18 rebounds. 

Ejim has also been named a Capital One First-Team Academic All-American.
