JUCO defensive lineman is visiting ISU this weekend

It’s no secret that Iowa State needs to add depth to its defensive line over the final two weeks leading up to National Signing Day on Feb. 5. Terry Ayeni, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive lineman out of New Mexico Military Institute, could be that man.

Iowa State coaches Paul Rhoads, Shane Burnahm and Louis Ayeni visited Ayeni on Monday. Along with seven other prospects, Ayeni plans on officially visit Iowa State this weekend. 

“We talked about the whole recruiting process and what they are trying to do and how they want to do it,” Ayeni said of the visit. “They said that they need a pass rusher and someone who can get to the quarterback in the Big 12. They face all of that stiff competition with Texas and Oklahoma. They told me that they see me being a really good pass rusher and could even progress to the next level.”

Ayeni recently visited Northern Illinois and the Huskies appear to still be in the mix. After this weekend’s trip to Ames, Ayeni will visit South Florida on Jan. 31. He also said that Mississippi State is now recruiting him. 

“I have been talking to them lately,” Ayeni said. “I am looking at coaching. I am looking at an opportunity to get better. I want to get to the next level. I am looking at where I can get the best education. I want to feel like a part of a team. That’s what I’m looking for.”

Based off of his visit schedule, this will likely be a last minute class addition for whichever school Ayeni chooses. Ayeni played defensive end last year for New Mexico Military Institute where he recorded 48 tackles (14 for a loss), seven sacks and one forced fumble. However, the thought of Ayeni sliding inside at the next level is not out of the question either. 

Ayeni will have three years to play two seasons at the next level.
