IRVING, Texas – Scott Fernandez is recognized as one of the nation’s top collegiate and amateur golfers, and the Granada, Spain native added more honors to his resume this afternoon. The sophomore was selected to the All-Big 12 Men’s Golf First Team, the league office announced today.
Fernandez was one of 10 golfers to earn All-Big 12 honors. All members are ranked in the top-65 nationally, including Fernandez, who is ranked 16th by Golfweek’s individual rankings.
The Cyclone sensation has produced record-breaking numbers this season, placing in the top-10 in eight of nine events, including an individual title at the Furman Intercollegiate. Fernandez currently has a 71.11 stroke average, which is on pace to break the single-season scoring mark set last year by Nate McCoy (71.65).
Fernandez joins Nate McCoy (2012), Chris Baker (2008), Matt Lewis (1998), Jason Knutzon (1997) and Donnie Teeter (1997) in an elite group of Cyclone golfers named to be named All-Big 12 first team.
Fernandez is a lock to qualify individually in one of six NCAA regionals, but his destination is yet to be determined. Regional assignments will be announced Monday, May 6.
