Williams Blog: Where’s the love?

I have no problem with Bill Snyder winning the Big 12’s Coach of the Year award.

In fact, I believe that it was very deserving. The Wildcats of Kansas State were picked to finish eighth in the Big 12 and they should be playing in a BCS bowl (KSU got jobbed royally) after going 10-2 on the season.

You’ll hear no arguments from me on that one.

Let’s dig a little bit deeper though and take a close look at the Big 12 awards that were released today.

The coaches who were named Honorable Mention Coach of the Year?

Art Briles, Baylor – Great coach. Baylor isn’t supposed to go 9-3. Very deserving.

Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State – According to many, Gundy’s Cowboys should be playing in the BCS Championship game. No problems here.

Bob Stoops, Oklahoma – Wait…What?

I realize that the Sooners had an injury plagued 2011, but isn’t this the same program that literally anybody with a pulse picked to be playing for a national championship this January?

Oklahoma went 9-3. How many Sooner fans are happy with an Insight Bowl berth vs. Iowa? Was the fact that the Sooners looked like a group of zombies in a 34-point season finale loss to rival Oklahoma State that really pushed voters over the edge?

Can somebody please explain to me why Paul Rhoads isn’t on this list? I can live with Iowa State’s head coach not winning the award. Bill Snyder’s accomplishments this season are unquestionable.

But giving Bob Stoops honorable mention honors and snubbing Rhoads, who is taking Iowa State to its second bowl game in three years after the Cyclones were picked by many to win only two or three games in 2011 is an absolute joke.

That is all. Carry on.
