Iowa State is close to picking up a verbal commitment from a junior college defensive tackle.
Walton Taumoepeau, who stands 6-foot-5, 300-pounds and hails from Cerritos College in California, officially visited Ames the weekend of the Utah game.
"It seems like the perfect school for me," Taumoepeau told CycloneFanatic.com on Sunday night. We’ll see."
A couple of factors make Taumoepeau and intriguing prospect for Iowa State. The first one is obvious. He’s a junior college defensive tackle. The second is that Taumoepeau will be a mid-year transfer, meaning that he could be on campus for spring football. That’s a big coup in the world of college football.
"Probably by the end of the season, Taumoepeau said regarding when he plans on making a decision. "Less than two months for sure."
Bob Elliott is Iowa State’s lead recruiter for Taumoepeau.
At this point in time, Iowa State is the only BCS conference school to offer Taumoepeau. Washington has been showing interest as well.
In seven games this season, Taumoepeau has recorded 13 tackles, five sacks and three quarterback hurries. Cerritos College currently boasts a 5-2 record.
