Iowa State has picked up a commitment from Virginia transfer guard Marial Shayok, according to a report from ESPN’s Jeff Goodman. Shayok officially visited Ames the weekend of April 7-9.

The 6-foot-5 Canada native averaged 8.9 points and 2.4 rebounds as a junior last season for the Cavaliers. He shot 33 percent from behind the 3-point line and 45 percent from the field.

He averaged 4.3 points in 15 minutes for Virginia’s 2015-16 squad that advanced to the Elite Eight. He scored five points and grabbed five rebounds in the Sweet 16 win over Iowa State.

Shayok will sit-out next season before being eligible in 2018-19. The Cyclones have three scholarships remaining for the 2017-18 season.
