AMES, Iowa – Iowa State quarterback Sam Richardson has been named to the preseason watch list for the Manning Award, given annually to the nation’s top quarterback.

The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.

Richardson, a senior from Winter Park, Fla., is one of 30 quarterbacks listed.

Richardson enters his third season as Iowa State’s starting signal-caller in 2015, compiling 4,607 passing yards and 1,010 rushing yards in his career.

He is one of seven active FBS players in the nation with over 4,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards.

Richardson is coming off a junior campaign where he recorded one of the best statistical seasons by an ISU quarterback in school history. He ranked third in the Big 12 and 13th nationally in completions per game (23.1), setting the school record for completions in a season with 254.

His 2,669 passing yards ranked as the fourth-best single-season total in school history and his 18 touchdown passes was two shy from the school mark and third-best in school history.

Richardson owns the top-two completion games in the history of Cyclone football, completing 37 passes vs. Toledo and 36 against Texas in 2014.
