DES MOINESCycloneFanatic.com confirmed Saturday night via a source that Marquette transfer Deonte Burton has committed to ISU.

The 6-4, 240-pound combo was in Ames Friday and attended the 83-54 win over Drake at Wells Fargo Arena. He was a four-star recruit out of high school and last season earned Big East all-rookie team honors while averaging 6.9 points and 2.2 rebounds for the Golden Eagles.

Burton had planned a visit to UCLA, but apparently decided that trip was unnecessary.

Burton’s situation would likely mirror that of fellow Marquette transfer Jameel McKay — who paid his own way after chosing to transfer to ISU last November.

McKay was not granted a waiver to play at the beginning of this season for the Cyclones, so made his debut tonight (eight points, five rebounds).

Burton’s remaining eligibility will also hinge on a waiver.
