The Big Ten vs Big 12 Debate

I hate the fact that this even has been a topic of debate in the national media, but when the national media puts their heads up their asses, this is the kind of stuff that comes out.

Is the Big Ten a respectable conference? Yes. Did the Big Ten bring home the title? Yes. Do I drink too much sometimes? Yes. I get it, the Big Ten had the best team but are they the best conference? Hold your horses. First off, look at the injuries in the Big 12 this year. JT Toppin for Tech, Richie Saunders for BYU, Joshua Jefferson for Iowa State, all superstars in this conference that went down and didn’t play in the NCAA Tournament. We could be talking about two or maybe even three extra teams from the Big 12 making it further than what they did.

Houston and Arizona were probably the best chances for the Big 12 to bring home a title. But Houston shot a season low against Illinois and Michigan shot lights out against Arizona. It’s basketball, shit happens, that’s why it’s called March Madness.

When I look at both conferences from top to bottom, give me the Big 12. Michigan, Illinois, Michigan State, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. Those were the teams who finished in the top five in the Big Ten, then look at the Big 12 top five with Arizona, Houston, Kansas, Texas Tech, and Iowa State, if all teams are healthy, it’s the Big 12.

And if you want to look at the bottom five of each conference which the Big Ten’s bottom is about as ugly as a pig’s ass. You will see Arizona State, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, and Utah compared to Rutgers, Northwestern, Oregon, Maryland, and Penn State, again, give me the Big 12. Top, middle, bottom, any anything else, it’s the Big 12 over the Big Ten.

Bill Self Stays Put

Glad to have you back Bill. But he needs to put a new team together because it seems like everyone and their mom went to the transfer portal. On top of that, Darryn Peterson took about a decade off of his life.

And let’s face it, this program isn’t what it once was. This isn’t 2022 anymore. They have been passed up by the Houston’s, Arizona’s, and Iowa State’s now in the last few years. And speaking of the last few years, it’s been four years since Kansas made it out of opening weekend in the tournament.

Bill Self is an Icon, no doubt, but things haven’t been just smooth sailing over the last few years. And I don’t think this is going to be a thing where he rides off into the sunset cutting down the nets like he may have been able to do years ago.

I still think he’s adjusting to how things work now and when it comes to that, you have to be one step ahead otherwise you are going to get passed up by these programs that you were once better than simply because you could recruit the best players over everyone else because it’s Kansas. It doesn’t work like that anymore, but I am glad to have him back for at least one more year, but I wonder if his health can stay good and he can finish this thing on his own terms.

Cody Campbell vs Brett Yormark

In case you have been living under a rock, or in Fort Dodge, Texas Tech chairman and big-time booster Cody Campbell is not happy with Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark. Ok, for you folks in Fort Dodge I am kidding and I love you and I will visit your beautiful city sometime.

But the reason Cody Campbell is not happy is because the Big 12 threw out the idea of Texas Tech’s home opener against Houston to be played on Friday night instead of Saturday. While that may not seem to be a big deal to some, it is to Campbell who says that Texas High School football is the only thing that belongs on Friday night.

As someone who is from the state of Texas and played Texas high school football, I understand the importance of it. But at the same time, Brett Yormark has a job to do. According to Yormark, Friday night Big 12 games delivered ratings 64% higher than the conference average in 2025. So why wouldn’t the Big 12 want to capitalize on that?

Cody Campbell can be mad all he wants but he doesn’t run the Big 12. Brett Yormark understands that Friday night is prime real estate and is where you don’t have to compete for people’s attention. If it were up to me, I would put at least one Big 12 game on every single Friday night during the season.
