San Diego is set to hire Iowa State assistant coach JR Blount as its next head coach. Blount has spent the past five seasons on staff with TJ Otzelberger, playing a key role in the Cyclones’ recruiting efforts.

Blount was widely regarded as one of the best assistant coaches in the country the past couple of years. He will now move on to lead San Diego’s program.

The Cyclones are headed to Kansas City for the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament to face either Arizona State or Baylor Wednesday morning at 11:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
