Former Iowa State guard Monte Morris has landed another NBA contract, signing with the Indiana Pacers according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
Morris played with Phoenix last season and appeared to have signed with Indiana in September, but he failed a physical in which the organization found he had a calf injury. Now as the Pacers waive Mac McClung, Morris fills that spot.
Morris is in his ninth year in the NBA, now playing on his sixth team. In his career, Morris is averaging 9.5 points, 3.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game. His assist-to-turnover ratio sits at 5.14-1, the second best in NBA history with a minimus of 400 games played.
Without all-star Tyrese Haliburton, the Pacers are off to just a 1-7 start. Andrew Nembhard, the team’s other primary ball handler, got injured in the team’s season opener and hasn’t played since, so Morris should have an opportunity to make an impact right away.
Morris becomes the sixth former Cyclone to play for the Pacers, joining fellow point guards Haliburton and former All-American Jamaal Tinsley. Morris’ former coach Fred Hoiberg and former teammates Georges Niang and Naz Mitrou-Long also spent time in Indiana.
Indiana’s next game is at Denver on Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. Details of the agreement aren’t released yet, but we will keep you updated at CycloneFanatic.com.
