AMES, Iowa –

Iowa State 141-pounder Anthony Echemendia will miss the remainder of the season, head coach Kevin Dresser confirmed on Thursday morning. Echemendia underwent surgery a few weeks ago and was in recovery, but complications this week required another procedure. He is now off the mat until at least April or May. The good news is that he will take a medical redshirt and has two more years of eligibility, according to Dresser.

With Echemendia out, Jacob Frost will continue holding down the 141-pound spot. Frost was named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week after securing back-to-back wins over top-20 opponents, including a dramatic sudden-victory win over No. 4 Tagen Jamison of Oklahoma State. He also dominated No. 19 Mosha Schwartz of Oklahoma in a 10-4 decision. Now ranked No. 9 in the nation by FloWrestling, Frost has won eight straight matches.

Echemendia’s injury marks another major hit for the Cyclones, who are already without heavyweight Yonger Bastida for the season due to a knee injury. Bastida is pursuing a medical redshirt as well.
