Iowa State is hosting former North Dakota State wide receiver Eli Green on campus this weekend in an effort put another piece together of its 2024 roster.
Green spent three seasons at NDSU before entering the transfer portal this off-season.
“It’s been kind of wild,” Green said of his recruitment. “Being able to organize it after seeing how it goes for a couple days – it’s been great.”
Green, who appeared in each of NDSU’s 15 games last season and started in six of them, brings a unique skillset with himself.
The to-be redshirt junior collected 877 receiving yards and three touchdowns, but also rushed for 118 yards and returned 11 kicks for 202 yards last season.
He will also find some familiar faces during his visit in wide receivers coach Noah Pauley and running backs coach Tyler Roehl – each of which were in Fargo before taking jobs at Iowa State.
“They have been fantastic,” Green said of Iowa State’s staff. “And having previous knowledge just with coach Pauley and coach Roehl being at NDSU during my time there – I know they’re quality people. Getting to have talks with Coach Campbell and see their outlook on on how I would fit in with their program and the things that they have to offer has been fantastic.”
The Cyclones are searching for a depth piece to add to the room, and currently have two open scholarships to fill before the season starts this fall.
Green’s ultimate choice could be right around the corner, too.
“It’s certainly down the stretch,” Green said of his recruitment. “Iowa State is in my top three, for sure. I’ll be (on my visit) and we’ll do all of the activities that you would do on an official and have my family sit down with the coaches and get more in-depth into the possibility of being a Cyclone.”
Green will be in Ames on Thursday and Friday for his visit.
“I think extremely highly of Iowa State and what the coaches present and what they have to offer for me as an athlete, as a person and just the way they go about things there,” Green said. “I haven’t obviously been around for the last three years, I’ve been at a different school. But I can certainly see a future in being a Cyclone.”
