Iowa State will be in a recruiting battle this weekend for 2024 cornerback prospect Khijonn Cummings-Coleman, as the the program squares up with TCU.
The Minnesota prospect is rated as a top talent out of the state and has narrowed his choices down to Iowa State and Western Michigan.
“It’s good,” Cummings-Coleman said. “It’s been a long process. I’m glad it’s getting down to the time to make the big-boy decision.”
Cummings-Coleman has already visited Western Michigan, and held offers to Iowa, Kansas, and Minnesota, among others before trimming his list to the final two.
He’ll be in Ames on Saturday on a visit during the weekend to check out Ames during the Jack Trice game and to become more familiar with the coaching staff.
“We’ve been talking about what the future could look like, what my potential as a player is and stuff like that,” Cummings-Coleman said. “Their coaching staff (stands out the most), and Matt Campbell. I’ve always heard a ton of good things about Iowa State.”
Cummings-Coleman was primarily a wide receiver during his high school career, but understands he’ll adjust to the defensive side of the football if he chooses to play in Ames.
“It’s not a dislike – it’s something that I’m just going to have to grow into,” Cummings-Coleman said. “It’s something I can definitely see (myself doing).”
Iowa State cornerbacks coach Hank Poteat has been the primary recruiter on the 5-foot-11, 180-pound recruit.
Saturday’s game will be the backdrop to the third Game Day visit that Cummings-Coleman has been on at Iowa State.
He’s looking to see changes – or more so growth – in the program.
“I liked the atmosphere and the culture,” Cummings-Coleman said. “I want to see if anything like that has changed. I (want to see) how they feel their lives have changed and where they think the program is.”
