What was called the most anticipated matchup of the collegiate season, is set to take place for a third time. David Carr and Keegan O’Toole will battle for the 165-pound title at the NCAA Wrestling Championships on Saturday night.
Carr and O’Toole have been looking forward to the opportunity to face each other again since the moment the whistle blew at the Big 12 Championship earlier this month.
Carr is 2-0 over O’Toole in his first season at 165 pounds. A decision that came because the Ohio native was ready for a tougher challenge and a tougher rival that he’s found in O’Toole.
“It was a blessing having someone like David Carr move up. He’s such an elite level wrestler and has been for a while,” O’Toole said following his semifinal win. “I hate losing but those losses are much more important and much more valuable to my character and how I bounce back.”
In a unique opportunity, the rematch will happen in the same exact spot they wrestled just two weeks ago in the title match at the Big 12 Championships in Tulsa at the BOK Arena.
“I look forward to wrestling him every time because he pushes me,” Carr said following his semifinal win over Princtons Quincy Monday.
