IRVING, Texas — Iowa State sophomore Yonger Bastida was voted Big 12 Wrestler of the Week by league coaches after completing his sixth-straight victory and second consecutive win over a top-10 opponent, aiding the No. 13 Cyclones in a 23-13 win over No. 15 Purdue Sunday night.

Ranked No. 18 nationally at 197 pounds, Bastida defeated No. 10 Thomas Penola 6-4. Bastida had a takedown in each of the first two periods to take a 4-3 lead into the third period. The final takedown came with 1:11 left for Bastida’s victory that put Iowa State ahead 20-13.

Bastida is now 7-1 on the year and the victory also gave head coach Kevin Dresser his 200th career win.
