History made — at least for this century.

As 15,000 fans watch in awe, flashing cell phone lights as the clock wound down, it became apparent Iowa State would defeat Oklahoma Saturday at Jack Trice Stadium for the first time since 1960.

The Cyclones, prevailed 37-30, behind tough and swift running of Breece Hall, clutch passing from Brock Purdy and a win-sealing interception from Isheem Young.

 And many more.

This was, in coach speak, yes fabulous coach speak, a total team win.

ISU trailed 17-6 early but took a 23-20 lead in the third quarter on Purdy’s 65-yard strike to Xavier Hutchinson.

Purdy later fumbled while being sacked, which set up Oklahoma’s touchdown to go-ahead 30-23 with 8:17 left, but ISU refused to wilt.

Instead, the Cyclones outscored the Sooners 14-0 down the stretch to win for just the seventh time in the series.

Hall punctuated the triumph with big runs and one of his two touchdowns. Kene Nwangwu aided the effort with a huge kickoff return.

Purdy — who completed 12 of 24 passes for 254 yards — also rushed for a touchdown in the game’s final minutes.

The Cyclones (2-1, 2-0 Big 12) are tied for first place in the conference standings.

Oklahoma (1-2, 0-2) lost back-to-back conference games for the first time since 1998.
