WBB: Cyclones ranked for first time in five seasons

The Iowa State Women’s basketball team did something on Monday it had not accomplished since the 2014 season — appeared in the Associated Press Top 25 Rankings.

The Cyclones made their debut in the poll this season by earning a slot at No. 23 after a 5-0 start to the year.

The ranking is the first for the Iowa State women’s basketball program since the 2013-14 season, when the team was ranked through February 1.

Also appearing in the poll were in-state rivals, Iowa and Drake, at No. 14 and No. 24, respectively.

Notre Dame took home all 31 first-place votes in the poll ahead of UConn, Oregon, Baylor, and Louisville.

Aside from Baylor, Texas is the only other Big 12 team ranked coming in at No. 9.

Miami – who the Cyclones beat to win the Preseason WNIT at Hilton Coliseum – was ranked No. 21.

Iowa State’s next game comes on Wednesday when the team will go on the road to face South Dakota. The game will tip off at 7:00 p.m.
