McKay and Nader set to play in Portsmouth Invitational

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State seniors Jameel McKay and Abdel Nader are among the 64 players that will participate in the 2016 Portsmouth Invitational, officially announced Monday by the annual senior showcase.

Team rosters, with eight teams making up the field, will be announced in the near future.

McKay, a Milwaukee, Wisconsin native, averaged 11.1 points and paced the Cyclones with 8.8 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game during his senior campaign. He earned All-Big 12 honorable mention accolades, finishing third in the league in blocks. He was second among conference players shooting 60.5 percent from the field.

Nader, a native of Skokie, Illinois, increased his scoring from 5.8 points as a junior to 12.9 points as a senior. He shot a career-best 47.8 percent from the field and 37.1 percent from behind the arc. Nader, who also earned All-Big 12 honorable mention recognition, was second on the team with 37 steals and 23 blocks.

McKay and Nader join Oklahoma’s Ryan Spangler and Isaiah Cousins and Texas’ Prince Ibeh as representatives from the Big 12 Conference.

In 2015, Bryce Dejean-Jones averaged 12.3 points at the Portsmouth Invitational following his senior season at Iowa State. Dejean-Jones averaged 5.4 points in 14 games while playing for New Orleans in the NBA this season.
