Sorsby Lawyers Up

By now everyone and their mother knows about the Brendan Sorsby situation at Texas Tech. The five-million-dollar quarterback was caught betting on games back at his days at Indiana. Some call it crazy; I call it stupid because you have to be a moron to bet on your own games.

While he is under investigation by the NCAA, he has hired a lawyer. The same lawyer who represented Tom Brady during deflategate. But this ain’t about some flat footballs, this is about a guy who bet on games at school he played for.

Whether this works or not depends on the NCAA. And if you know anything about the NCAA, they are about as reliable as dead car battery, they simply don’t work. While the investigation is still ongoing, it’s hard to say what’s going to happen to Sorsby. He’s either going to be the starter week one or not play at all in 2026. I don’t feel like there is an in-between here.

Either way, it feels like Texas Tech should have done some research on him. I understand that a guy like Cody Campbell wipes his ass with $100 dollar bills but maybe they should have done their homework before giving someone millions of dollars.

Tyran Stokes to Kansas

What a win for Bill Self here and a much needed one because it feels like that program needs a bit of fresh air after the Darryn Peterson crap and speaking of Peterson, you hope to avoid another situation like that altogether.

To go out and get the number one player in the country, the consensus number one player in the country, was a huge get for Kansas. He could end up as the Big 12 player of the year or maybe the national player of the year if everything goes right.

I think Stokes is a generational talent, and for him to pick Kansas over Kentucky, first off, was a kick in the balls right to Mark Pope, which I found funny but for him to pick Kansas over Kentucky, where Stokes is originally from his hilarious.

Some are calling this the best get for Bill Self because of the era we are in today. You can’t just go out and out recruit everyone anymore just because you walk in with a Kansas logo. You have to stay on them, work, and sure, money is involved but I know there were other schools out there backing up the money truck to get him too.

He could be that piece that Self needs to build around, and who knows maybe the guy that takes them back to a final four and helps Bill ride off into the sunset. But it is also going to come down building around him as well for them to achieve their ultimate goal.

Welcome Back Jerome Tang

I am not going to lie, I forgot just how long he was at Baylor before he got the coaching job at Kansas State. He was in Waco for nearly 20 years, which is more than enough time for someone to go insane there. So, kudos to him for staying in Waco that long because I couldn’t do it.

But to me, I guess it makes sense for him to go back to the place, albeit a shitty place, but the place where he made his bones and made a name for himself. I just wonder for Scott Drew, who is under a bit of pressure to get that program back on track, it is an interesting move to bring back a coach who did such a poor job over the last few years.

But maybe Tang is just better as an assistant coach than a head coach, nothing wrong with that but it’s certainly not a sexy move by Scott Drew here. But I guess, working at Baylor is better than being a floor cleaner so he’s got that going for him.
