Jamie Pollard’s Comments
I will be the first to admit, I am not always on the same side as Iowa State AD Jamie Pollard, maybe it’s because I’m a slob. But, I’ll let bygones be bygones because his comments this week put a big smile on my face more than a cold beer and a big ass tenderloin sandwich could ever. Well, depending on where it comes from, but you get my point.
Earlier this week, Pollard told reporters, including our own Jake Brend, that he doesn’t care if the Big Ten and the SEC break away. He basically told them to quit threatening the idea of it and just do it.
Bravo, Jamie, Bravo and I couldn’t agree more. It’s bad enough the Big Ten and SEC have more power than Thanos when it comes to the college football playoff but for those two conferences to continuously bitch and whine about everything is getting exhausting.
And like Jamie, I am getting to my breaking point. Stop talking about it and be about it. If you are going to run your mouth and make threats, then you better deliver. If the Big Ten and the SEC want to take their ball and go home, then why should any of us get in their way? I say goodbye and good riddance.
Big 12 Baseball
I just wanted to mention to those folks who are looking for some college sports to watch that baseball and softball are both in full swing right now. The men’s conference tournament is currently in day four right now with the semifinals on Friday and the championship game on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. central time.
Meanwhile, we have a few Big 12 softball teams playing in the Super Regionals. And those games also start Friday for three game sets. It’s a busy time right now and don’t be afraid to take a break from the the MLB, NBA, or even hockey to give it a try. Or if you are like me, have multiple screens up at once.
Iowa Hospitality
For those who may not know, I am currently on vacation as I am typing this. So thank you to Cyclone Fanatic for making me work when I am trying to relax. I am kidding of course and honestly, doing this helps keep me sane in my busy life.
Anyways, my wife and I flew into Chicago last week and headed up to Milwaukee and Madison for a few days before rounding out our trip this weekend in the Windy City. After experiencing Wisconsin for a few days, I can honestly say that I had a great time in the Badger state.
We had some great beer (Lakefront Brewery, New Glarus, cheap Hamm’s, you name it) excellent scenery and some good eats between brats, cheese curds, and fresh fish. As great as that all was, one thing that was noticeably different in Wisconsin from Iowa, other than the old fashioned’s was the hospitality.
Having been to Iowa several times, I have never had bad service, and I always feel welcome anywhere I go whether it’s in Des Moines, Ames, or anywhere else in the state. I can’t say the same about Wisconsin. Now I have heard that northern Wisconsin is better than the southern part but still, it made me realize just how lucky I am to get to go back to the great state of Iowa and be welcomed with open arms.
