Welcome to the Big 12 Buzz! Things are going to look a little different during the offseason but that doesn’t mean I can’t share what’s on my mind this week in the Big 12.
The Big 12 Bubble
If there is one place I would hate to be on selection Sunday, it would be the bubble. Although, it’s probably better to be on the bubble than be in Waco but that’s just my opinion. There are three games left of the regular season, and I figured now would be the perfect time to start talking about which Big 12 teams are on the bubble.
Starting with UCF, the Knights were projected to be a double digit seed a few days ago but that win over BYU in Provo gave UCF plenty of wiggle room. UCF is now 9-6 in Big 12 play which is great and they have a NET ranking in the mid-40’s. At this point, they are a lock to get in.
As for the rich kids in Fort Worth, they are the only team that is literally on the bubble from the Big 12. A week ago, they were on the outside looking in but since then they have had back-to-back wins over West Virginia and Arizona State. Now they are .500 in conference play, and their NET ranking is still inside the top 50. Their next three games should be treated like tournament games because it’s do or die time for the Horny Toads.
Next up is West Virginia but at this point it’s a bit of stretch. How much of a stretch? My Thanksgiving pants are stretchy, which is a lot for those who don’t know. Anyways, the Mountaineers aren’t even on or in the bubble anymore.
They have lost two games in a row, fallen to under .500 in Big 12 action and have a NET ranking in the 60’s. Their bubble done popped, locked, and dropped it. And for those who don’t know that classic hit, I am sorry.
Rocco Becht Isn’t in Ames Anymore
I don’t want to be the guy who rubs salt in a wound but if I did, I would at least give you some tequila and lime to go with it to ease the pain. Earlier this week, Penn State quarterback Rocco Becht had a session with the media for spring ball.
When he arrived at his table, Rocco was caught off guard by where his table was and not by how many reporters and fanboys were at the table itself. Yet 247Sports reporter Mark Brennan thought that it was a good time to take a shot at Ames, Iowa with maybe the stupidest tweet of the year.
“I thought this was a media table,” Rocco says. Then in the video someone replies, “This isn’t Iowa State.”
Well, no shit sherlock. To act like Rocco has never seen a group of reporters before is just flat out stupid. Whoever said that probably didn’t even know Iowa State had a football team either.
“tHiS iSn’T iOwA sTaTe.” Well duh, last time I checked, Iowa State doesn’t hold media sessions in a damn lunchroom. Were they going to have lunch with Rocco? Bake him a cake and bring it to him? Have coffee with him?
The whole high and mighty act from Penn State media is old. They ran James Franklin out of town, and you think they won’t turn their back on Matt Campbell, and the countless players Penn State took from little ole Iowa State? Give me a break.
Yeah, that school where all of our transfers came from, let’s take a shot at them. Ames isn’t some third world country that doesn’t care about football. There’s plenty of media and no shortage of passionate fans when it comes to football, basketball, or any other sport for that matter.
If there was any school, we should be taking shots at Scandal State, excuse me Penn State. Happy Valley ain’t all that happy folks.
