Iowa State football earned its first commitment of the Jimmy Rogers era from 3-star ATH Malcom Watkins. The 6-foot-0, 180-pound Bakersfield, California native was originally committed to Oregon State and signed with Washington State before ultimately pledging to the Cyclones after the departure of Jimmy Rogers from Washington State.

Watkins held offers from Oregon State, Fresno State, San Jose State, California, UNLV, Washington State, San Diego State, Nevada, and Sacramento State. What stands out about Watkins, is his elite speed. He has run multiple sub-11.0 second 100m and a 22.05 second 200m. This past fall, Watkins hauled in 45 catches for 775 yards and nine touchdowns.
