Iowa State wrestling downs Oklahoma

The following is a press release from Iowa State Athletics Communications

AMES, Iowa – No. 4 Iowa State (11-2, 4-0 Big 12) increased its Big 12 dual meet winning streak to 15 matches in a 25-12 triumph against Oklahoma (7-4, 1-2 Big 12) Friday night in Hilton Coliseum.

The Cyclones won six of ten matches with three bonus-point victories, including two by fall. Cyclone seniors went 3-0 on senior night with wins by Marcus Coleman (184), Joel Devine (197) and Sam Schuyler (285).

Iowa State won the takedown battle, 21-5

Jason Kraisser got the Cyclones on the board with an impressive come-from-behind victory at 157 pounds over Jared Hill. Down 4-0 after the first period, Kraisser rode out Hill the entire second stanza to avoid a crucial escape point. Choosing down to begin period three, Kraisser scored a reversal and got a takedown in the period to force sudden victory behind a riding time point at 5-5.

Kraisser ended the match, 7-5, with a takedown with 14 seconds left in the extra period.

Second-ranked David Carr cruised to a 19-6 major decision against Gerrit Nijenhuis at 165 pounds. Carr, who had eight takedowns in the match, remains unbeaten at 14-0.

No. 4 Marcus Coleman registered a third period fall (5:50) at 184 pounds to improve to 12-1 on the year. Coleman was in control the entire match vs. Keegan Moore. On his fifth takedown, he turned over Moore for the fall.

At 197 pounds, a first period takedown and subsequent four-point nearfall aided Joel Devine in his 9-3 decision vs. Carson Berryhill. Devine now has wins at 174, 184 and 197 pounds this season.

Sam Schuyler’s ability to ride out Josh Heindselman in the second period was the difference in his 2-0 victory at 285.

Zach Redding notched the second fall of the match for the Cyclones, as Redding turned Wyatt Henson after his second takedown at the 4:11 mark.

Iowa State is back in action on Sunday (Jan. 29) playing host to No. 10 Oklahoma State. First match is at 2 p.m. CT. Tickets remain on sale, here
