George Conditt IV’s college career is over.

The 6-foot-9 senior center from Chicago announced on Monday he’ll forego the possibility of an extra year of eligibility granted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and start pursuing a professional career.

During his four-year career in Ames, Conditt averaged 4.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and more than one block per game in 116 games with 35 starts. His best season came in 2019-20 when he averaged 7.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game alongside 2020 NBA Draft lottery pick Tyrese Haliburton.

Conditt, a Cyclone legacy and the last remaining member of Iowa State’s much-hyped 2019 recruiting class headlined by eventual NBA draft picks Haliburton and Talen Horton Tucker, finishes his Iowa State career fourth in program history in blocked shots. He also made two appearances in the NCAA Tournament, one Sweet 16 and was a member of Iowa State’s 2019 Big 12 Tournament championship squad.

Few players in recent Iowa State memory have seen the program go through highs and lows to the degree Conditt did during his four years.

Shoot, it is rare a player even stays at a school long enough to feel four years and ups and downs. For that, Conditt should be commended.

Not everything always went his way, but he kept fighting for Iowa State, and he’ll leave the program in a better place because of it.

Tough times don’t last. Tough people do.
