While Iowa State made it official with its 2022 high school recruiting class on Wednesday at the start of the early national signing period, they got a little extra help from the transfer portal.
University of Delaware linebacker Colby Reeder announced he’ll join the Cyclones next spring after a stellar four-year career with the Blue Hens.
Reeder is a 6-foot-3, 235-pound linebacker with a brother, Troy, that plays the position for the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams.
In limited action on the field during the latest FCS season, Reeder had his best game against Jacksonville State in the FCS quarterfinals, recording seven stops as well as a forced fumble.
Throughout his four seasons on the field, Reeder tallied 161 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, seven passes defended, four interceptions, four fumble recoveries, two fumbles forced and two blocked kicks.
Reeder fills an immediate position of need for Iowa State with the expected departures of seniors Mike Rose, Jake Hummel and O’Rien Vance.
The Cyclones also signed a trio of highly-touted high school linebackers with in-state prospects Will McLaughlin (Harlan) and Jacob Imming (Sergeant Bluff-Luton) joining Kansas City-area product Carson Willich.
Reeder is Iowa State’s second addition from the transfer portal so far this offseason, joining Minnesota defensive end MJ Anderson.
