RECRUITING: Iowa State lands commitment from three-star Texas QB

Iowa State added a big piece to its 2021 recruiting class on Thursday.

Three-star Texas quarterback Charles Wright announced his commitment to Matt Campbell’s program on Twitter. The 6-foot-1, 194-pound pro-style signal-caller has visited Ames multiple times, including attending one of the program’s junior days this month.

The Austin, Texas native is rated as the No. 831 player in the country overall, No. 29 pro-style quarterback and No. 120 prospect in the state of Texas by 247. He chose Iowa State over offers from North Texas, Texas State and Texas-San Antonio.

Wright threw for 2,510 yards and 27 touchdowns as a junior in 2019 following up a sophomore season in 2018 that saw him compile 2,862 yards and 26 touchdowns through the air. Iowa State was the first school to offer him in May 2019 then he camped in Ames that summer and took an unofficial visit in November.

Iowa State now holds four commitments in the 2021 class with all four players coming on the offensive side of the ball. Wright is the first player from Texas to join the class rated as the No. 45 group of commitments in the country and No. 7 class in the Big 12 by 247Sports.
