COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 24 Days

Each day leading up to Iowa State’s season opener against South Dakota State, Cyclone Fanatic will check another day off the calendar with a memorable statistic, player or game as part of our Countdown to Kickoff presented by Tailgate Clothing.

Outside of the Davis brothers, few players in the history of Iowa State football had more productive careers than Dexter Green. Green, an All-American in 1978, was a two-time All-Big Eight honoree and finished his Cyclone career with more than 3,500 yards of total offense.

Green finished his career, which lasted from 1975-1978, as the program’s all-time leading rusher with 3,437 yards. He was also the program’s all-time leading scorer with 228 points and his 34 rushing touchdowns was also an all-time program best.

While Troy Davis became the standard bearer for Iowa State running backs by breaking every major rushing record, it was Dexter Green who held the torch for nearly 20 years before him.
