RECRUITING: Cyclones land commitment from Chicago defensive back

Iowa State has landed a commitment from Chicago defensive back Joseph Thompson. The Phillips Academy product visited Iowa State late last month then again for an unofficial visit on Wednesday.

Thompson, a 5-foot-10, 160-pound three-star cornerback, chose the Cyclones over offers from Illinois, Toledo, Miami (OH), Western Michigan and a handful of others.

Thompson is rated as the No. 94 cornerback prospect in the country by 247Composite. He is the No. 23 player in Illinois and the No. 946 player in the class overall.

Thompson’s commitment gives Iowa State seven pledges for the 2019 recruiting cycle and pushes them up to No. 13 in the 247 Class Rankings. The class’ .8583 average rating would be the program’s all-time best.
