Thomas misses practice; expected to play Wednesday against Baylor

Steve Prohm said senior guard Matt Thomas didn’t practice on Sunday after being limited by a foot injury in Iowa State’s come-from-behind win over Texas Tech on Friday. Thomas sat out most of the second half after a minor injury he’d suffered previously flared up during in the game.

Prohm didn’t know for sure what Thomas’ status would be for practice on Monday, but didn’t rule him out of Wednesday’s game against Baylor (7 p.m. on ESPNews) even if he does sit out.

“He kinda knows what we’re doing. He knows our attack,” Prohm said during his press conference on Monday. “Monte (Morris) was joking, I think, this was the first practice he’d missed in four years. So if he can’t practice, we’ll sit him out today. I’d rather have him ready for Wednesday because we’re going to need him. Need his perimeter shooting for sure. So I’ll see Vic when I get back over, but I haven’t heard anything yet. But if he sits out today, that’s not a big deal, but he’ll play Wednesday for sure.”

If Thomas, who is averaging 11.8 points and shooting 36 percent from 3-point range this season, is able to play, Prohm wasn’t sure whether or not he would be limited from being full-go.

“Wait and see,” Prohm said. “I didn’t know he’d be limited Friday. Just coming out of half they told me he wasn’t feeling really well.”
