Basketball recruiting information is generally somewhat sparse during the the season but with three scholarships open to utilize during the spring period, Iowa State has zeroed in on two junior college and a prep prospect to potentially help bolster next year’s roster.

It is also worth noting that there is a good chance the Cyclones will pursue a fifth-year graduate transfer as well and depending on how recruiting goes in addition to any unexpected current roster attrition, a sit-out transfer as well.

Let’s start in the state of Iowa with a 6-foot-10 center out of Iowa Western Community College named De’Quon Lake, who has recently surfaced as a legitimate target.

Lake is originally from the US Virgin Islands and played high school ball in Virginia.

In 21 games this season, Lake is averaging 12.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per contest.

It’s also worth noting that Lake, who has additional offers from Arizona State and Old Dominion, is a former JUCO teammate of current Cyclone Donovan Jackson.

His size is obviously appealing to an Iowa State program that severely lacks it right now.

Introducing a somewhat under-the-radar JUCO prospect, Shakur Juiston, a 6-foot-7, 220-pound forward out of Hutchison C.C. in Kansas.

Juiston was originally a New Jersey prospect out of high school.

In 20 games this season, Juiston is averaging 15.2 points per game and ranks second in all of junior college basketball at 10.4 rebounds per. He also ranks third nationally in blocks at 1.8 per game.

Finally, news of this offer has been out there for a while, but there is a young man who originally hails from France named Alexis Yetna. Iowa State likes him a lot. Yetna is a 6-foot-8, 205 pound forward out of Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut.

Yetna is a consensus three-star recruit among the networks. Iowa State offered in late December.

Chris Williams

Chris was hired as Cyclone Fanatic’s publisher in the fall of 2009. He is Iowa State football's postgame show host on the Cyclone Radio Network and can be heard daily from 4-7 on Des Moines' top-rated sports station, 1460 KXnO. Williams, a 2007 graduate of Iowa State’s Greenlee School of Journalism, is the former publisher of the old CycloneNation.com (Scout.com). He has also written for the Des Moines Register, the Ames Tribune, CycloneReport.com and is the former sports director at KMA Radio. When Williams isn’t working, you can usually find him doing something outdoors with his wife Ashley, daughter Camryn, and Golden Retriever Dierks. He enjoys golfing, boating, country music, the Minnesota Vikings, Atlanta Braves and is passionate about any and all motor sports so finding Williams at a local dirt track is very common.
