RECRUITING: Council Bluffs QB Duggan talks ISU offer

Lewis Central (Council Bluffs) quarterback Max Duggan solidified himself as one of the best signal callers in Iowa during his sophomore season in 2016.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 175-pound prospect threw for 1,651 yards and 15 touchdowns (with five interceptions) and completed more than 60 percent of his passes. Plus, he ran for 592 yards on 114 carries with 14 scores. That adds up to 2,243 all-purpose yards and 29 touchdowns — as a sophomore.

Duggan’s big season helped him pick up an Iowa State offer during an unofficial visit to the Cyclones’ win over Texas Tech on Nov. 19. Earlier this week, Iowa State quarterbacks coach Jim Hofher stopped in Council Bluffs to the see the 2019 prospect.

“Coach Hofher came to school on Tuesday,” Duggan told Cyclone Fanatic. “I had a great talk with him.”

Duggan’s big sophomore season came after a freshman campaign in where he passed for 1,389 yards, 12 touchdowns and just one interception. He also added 359 yards and four scores on the ground.

Duggan also holds offers from Iowa and South Dakota State. He unofficially visited the Hawkeyes on Sept. 10. He said he’s recently been hearing from Wyoming and Pittsburgh, but neither school has offered as of now.

If Duggan continues his progression next season, it seems safe to say his list of scholarship offers will grow rather quickly.

“Very nice facilities,” Duggan said when asked about his visit to Ames. “Had a great meeting with Coach (Matt) Campbell and really enjoyed the the game.”

Obviously, 2019 is still quite a ways out, but it will be interesting to follow Duggan’s play on the field and his recruitment off of it for the next few years.
