YMCA Capital City League starts TONIGHT!

Let’s all go watch basketball.

Imagine those words to the tune of the old video they’d play in movie theaters telling people, “Let’s all go to the lobby.” You might not have ever heard that (video is below if not), I hadn’t until I bought a sign for my kitchen that said it.

That’s not the point of this blog, though. The point is that tonight, the YMCA Capital City League slate gets underway at Valley Southwoods in West Des Moines.

Finally, we can say let’s all go watch basketball.

The schedule kicks off with Deonte Burton (Hannah Homes) squaring off with Monte Morris’ Renaissance Granite and Quartz at 5:30. It is the two teams that had to the top two picks in this year’s  draft and it is somewhat of a rematch from last summer’s championship game. That’s the same championship game that Burton dropped 52 points in.

The second game will give Cyclone fans their first looks at freshman guard Jakolby Long and graduate transfer big man Merrill Holden. They will lead Lion’s Club up against grad transfer Darrell Bowie and Phoenix Renewable Resources at 6:45. Phoenix Renewable Resources will be without Naz Mitrou-Long while he battles for a spot on the Canadian national team.

In the final matchup of the night, Matt Thomas and Simeon Carter will lead Tim Vorland Photography up against Nick Babb and Solomon Young’s ADIO Chiropractic. Tip should be around 8:00.

Of course, if you can’t make it, we’ll have complete coverage of Cap City League right here on this very website.

Let’s all go watch basketball.
