RECRUITING: Key visitors take in second SNL camp

AMES, Iowa — The Iowa State football coaching staff hosted its second Saturday Night Lights camp of the summer this weekend, and had a few players of note in attendance.

Despite that, two visitors on the sidelines were the ones that stole the show.

Jefferson High School (GA) offensive guard Caleb Chandler and Butler County Community College defensive back Octavious Morgan both took visits to Ames on Saturday, and took in the camp alongside ISU staff members.

Chandler, a four-star prospect rated as the No. 21 offensive guard in the class by Scout, is as impressive in person physically as he looks on film. 

He looks every bit of the 6-foot-5-inches, 300 pounds listed on his scouting profiles, and it is no wonder he also holds offers from Florida, Mississippi State, Virginia Tech and a host of others.

The coaches bestowed him with the honor of blowing the airhorn at the end of each agility drill during the session on the practice field. He was applauded by Matt Campbell on more than one occasion for his airhorn blowing abilities.

You can’t make this stuff up.

Morgan, a 6-foot, 195 pound, prospect, spent quite a bit of time talking with Iowa State defensive coordinator Jon Heacock.

The three-star prospect, according to Scout, already has offers from Kansas State, West Virginia, Lousiville, Arkansas, Baylor and a handful of other schools, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that list grow in the coming months.

Both players are priorities at positions of need for Iowa State, and I hope to have more on their visits on Sunday.

Another 2018 in-state offensive lineman to watch

*** 2018 Cedar Rapids, Washington offensive guard Andrew Todd was among the players that competed at camp. He picked up an offer from ISU in December and has started seeing interest from a few more Power 5 schools.

The 6-foot-4-inch, 260 pound, prospect is on a long list of in-state offensive linemen to watch in the class of 2018.
