Iowa State running back Tyler Brown has left the team, an ISU spokesperson confirmed this morning.

Brown, a 5-11, 188-pound redshirt sophomore, emerged from last season’s fall camp as the No. 1 tailback and rushed for 68 yards in ISU’s season-opening win over Northern Iowa. His carries and numbers would fall from there. He rushed nine times for 19 yards in the loss to Iowa — and totalled four carries the rest of the season as star freshman Mike Warren burst onto the Big 12 scene.

Brown plans to remain in school this semester, then presumably will look to play elsewhere.

He ended last season third on the depth chart, behind Warren, a freshman All-American, and fellow freshman Joshua Thomas, who scored seven rushing touchdowns, mostly in short yardage situations.
