CFTV: Cyclones look to break rough patch against OU

AMES — Tonight, the Iowa State women’s basketball team (15-9, 6-7 Big 12) will look to break out of its rough patch when the Oklahoma Sooners (16-8, 10-3 Big 12) invade Hilton Coliseum.

The Cyclones have lost five of their last six games and sit in a three-way tie for third place in the Big 12. Even though the Cyclones have struggled mightly over much of the last six games, Iowa State head coach Bill Fennelly says the Cyclones aren’t in must-win territory, yet.

"My must-win is the win you have to get to continue your season," Fennelly said. "I think there are two teams for sure that are going to the tournament and three through 1- are looking at their schedule going, ‘if we could get hot that could be us."’

If the Cyclones hope to pull the upset over the Sooners, they will have to keep up with the Sooners’ frantic pace that leads to the second-leading offense in the Big 12 with 76.5 points per game.

"They like to play fast, maybe as fast as anyone in our league," Fennelly said. "They play with a lot of energy, a lot of enthusiasum, and they’re very deep. That’s the thing in our league, you don’t see a lot of teams that are that deep."

The Sooners and Cyclones will tip off at 8 p.m. The game will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
