JUCO defensive back inks with the Cyclones

The following is a press release courtesy of Iowa State athletics communications.

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head football coach Paul Rhoads announced today that Jarnor Jones, a junior college defensive back standout from Georgia Military, signed his letter of intent and has enrolled in classes for the Spring semester.

Jarnor Jones

Defensive Back
6-3, 210, Jr.
Lithonia, Georgia (Martin Luther King/Georgia Military College)

Georgia Military

Redshirted his only year at N.C. State before transferring to GMC … chose Iowa State over Georgia State … played one season at GMC, registering 40 tackles, 5.0 TFL, eight pass breakups and two interceptions … team finished 6-4 … coached by Bert Williams.

High School

Originally signed with N.C. State over offers from Kentucky, West Virginia and Maryland … was a three-star recruit by Rivals and ESPN … named the 28th-best safety by ESPN … ranked as the 58th-best player in Georgia … team went 12-2, including a 7-0 record in conference play … earned a spot in the state Class 5A playoffs … as a senior, had 49 tackles, 33 solo stops, one interception, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery for a touchdown … also standout basketball player, averaging 13.1 points per game … coached by Mike Carson.

Rhoads on Jones:

“Jarnor is a former ACC player at North Carolina State. To get an athlete of his caliber in a bounce back role is a nice pick up for our secondary. He’s tall with long arms, which means there is a lot of space that receivers have to get around to get in the clear. There is also a lot of length that he has to make plays with, whether that be tackles or rerouting receivers. He adds a dimension to our outside linebacker position whether that be nickel or into the boundary with a touch of athleticism that we can not only play physical but we can cover both zone and man.”
