Iowa State senior guard Nikki Moody has returned to the team and will practice Friday after being suspended from the team late last week.
According to Iowa State head coach Bill Fennelly, the staff met with Moody on Thursday and it went very well.
“We communicated with each other about what our expectations were moving forward,” Fennelly said. “I liked what she had to say. I reiterated to her that there’s certain things that are non-negotiable here, and the Iowa State way of doing things is that.”
Moody entered the season third in assists all-time at Iowa State. Fennelly said the reason for the suspension was really quite simple.
“It was just her attitude,” Fennelly said. “She had the kind of attitude on the court, and in practice, that you either bring energy into the gym, or you suck it out of the gym, and it wasn’t good.”
Moody will not suit up for Iowa State’s second exhibition game on Sunday against Winona State but will begin earning her spot back next week.
“Monday we’ll start over and see what happens,”Fennellysaid. “It’s not going to be Nikki’s back we’re going to throw her right back in there, she’s going to have to earn her spot.”
For Moody the suspension is a learning experience, now she will get back on the court and re-prove herself to the team.
“I trust my coaches and I trust any decision that they make,” Moody said. “Moving on forward, I’m just happy to be back on this team and I’m happy to be back with my teammates.”
