Moments ago, ISU coach Paul Rhoads announced that Sam Richardson will be the Cyclones’ starting quarterback when the team begins the season Aug. 30 against North Dakota State at Jack Trice Stadium.

Richardson started the first eight games last season and had been dueling with another former starter, Grant Rohach, throughout fall camp.

Richardson, a junior, completed 121 of 220 passes last season for 1,397 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The 6-2, 221-pound Winter Park, Fla. native battled injuries most of the 2013 season, but still ranked third on the team in rushing with 356 yards and two touchdowns.

He threw seven interceptions last season — and boasts a career touchdown-to-interception ratio of 19-to-7.
