Melvin Ejim might eventually play in the NBA, but it won’t be during the 2014-15 basketball season.

Ejim, last season’s Big 12 Player of the Year, announced on Twitter Wednesday afternoon that he has signed a contract to play in Rome.

"I’m very excited to begin my pro career playing for Virtus Roma.I’ve heard great things about the Club & I can’t wait to move to Rome," Ejim tweeted.

He added, "I look forward to this next chapter of my career and the challenge of competing in one of the top leagues in Europe."

Ejim averaged 17.8 points and 8.4 rebounds last year for the Cyclones. Ejim is the second-leading rebounder in the history of Iowa State basketball.
