The days of multiple National Signing Day surprises are well behind us. The Internet has pretty much eliminated that aspect from one of college football’s most important days of the year. However, Iowa State is still in on a couple of prospects leading up to Wednesday.
One is Justin Madison, who projects as a WILL linebacker out of Tampa, (Fla.) Robinson. Madison is visiting Wake Forest this weekend. He took an official visit to Iowa State last weekend.
"I just love the coaches there – the whole staff. Those are good people there," said Madison of his trip to Iowa State. "They have passion for the game. Actually being there and talking to people around town and how excited they are about Coach Rhoads and the whole staff and how things have changed over the past couple of years. They made things very attractive."
According to the Tampa Bay Times, Madison was recently offered by Miami and South Florida but turned both schools down. That same article also reports that Madison boasts a 4.1 GPA.
Madison received a visit this week from Iowa State’s defensive coordinator and defensive tackles coach Wally and Shane Burnahm.
"They came to my school. We messed around for about an hour or two. Then I met them at their hotel in a conference room," said Madison."I love sitting down and talking with him (Wally Burnham). He can teach you a lot in just a small amount of time."
Madison said that Iowa State’s coaches would play him at the WILL linebacker position should he choose the Cyclones.
"I would drop back into coverage, pass rush," said Madison. "I’d have all of that going for me."
Madison plans on taking his weekend visit to Wake and making a decision on Monday, although media won’t find out about what he’s thinking until Wednesday.
Regarding Wake Forest, academics are a big plus for the Demon Deacons.
"That’s like getting an Ivy League education," said Madison. "They play in the ACC so they are playing good competition also. That’s the best of both worlds there."
Cyclone Fanatic will keep you up to date on Madison’s recruitment as National Signing Day nears.
