Cyclones lose heartbreaker in Stillwater

The following is a press release issued and written by Iowa State athletic communications. 

STILLWATER, Okla. – The Iowa State men’s basketball team (14-6 overall, 4-3 Big 12) fell to Oklahoma State (15-4 overall, 4-3 Big 12) on Wednesday by a score of 78-76 despite a season-high 19 points by senior Chris Babb. Babb was 7 of 10 from the field, including 5 of 6 from behind the three-point line.

With the game tied at 76-76, Marcus Smart made a floater in the lane with five seconds left and Oklahoma State held on to win.

Georges Niang and Will Clyburn were the other Cyclones in double figures. Niang scored 17 points, going 6 of 7 from the field, while Clyburn scored right on his season average with 14 points. Tyrus McGee also had nine second half for the Cyclones.

The Cyclones had an efficient night offensively, shooting 54 percent from field. Iowa State had 17 assists on 28 field goals, lead by point guard Korie Lucious. Smart, Oklahoma State’s freshman point guard, had 21 points, seven assists and six rebounds to lead the Cowboys. Le’Bryan Nash had 18 for OSU.

The Cyclones will be back in action this Saturday to take on Baylor at 7 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum.
